Lewis Hamilton believes reliability issues have hindered his performance in 2012 ? Formula 1 news

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes that he would have been at the top of the drivers? championship if he hadn?t faced the reliability issues in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far.

Hamilton had been considered as one of the strongest title contenders as he performed with tremendous consistency in the first few races of the ongoing season. However, he has been encountered with reliability problems in many races due to which he lost some crucial points in the championship fight and his hopes for winning the title faded.

The British driver has said that the things would have been different, if he hadn?t faced the technical and operational problems. Furthermore, he said that he could have challenged Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing too, if he had the reliable car.

?The statistic is nice to have,? he said. ?But more World Championships would be better. I'm sure McLaren would say the same. I've been on pole position six times this year and yet I have only won three races. In the other ones we've had failures and issues with pit stops and so on. If my car was as reliable as Sebastian's or Fernando's this year I would be right up with them now.?

Nonetheless, he said that he has full faith in his team and is aiming to attain competitive points in the remaining two races of the current season.

It will be important to mention that he is going to join Mercedes in the next season as the replacement of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher who has decided to say goodbye to the sport at the end of this year.

Besides, he is positively looking forward to perform well in the coming year and is targeting to take the Brackley based team to new heights in the future.

?But this is an incredible team and I have no doubt in the future they will be competitive. I hope that they have a successful year next year,? he added.

Let?s see how the 2008 world champion performs in the remaining two grands prix.
